Location

Time has stood still in the small friendly villages of Bonen and Mellionnec. Clogs are still the favoured footwear and the locals always enjoy pausing to pass the time of day, which is a wonderful way to practice or learn some French or even the old Breton language.

Bonen and Mellionnec are situated just south of the busy market town of Rostrenen, (the crossroads of Brittany) and strategically placed on a good network of roads that lead you to the north, south and west coasts for your trips to the sea. You may, however, favour the local lakes for bathing, beaches and watersports - the closest being just twenty minutes by car. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools are just a ten minute drive away.

Rostrenen boasts numerous restaurants, pizzerias and creperies - all offering excellent value for money. There are also many cafes, shops, supermarkets plus a pretty square in the centre, complete with fountains and waterfalls to sit, watch and lazily while away the hours over a glass or two.

The famous Brest to Nantes Canal passes by both Bonen and Mellionnec, and with its wide tow path makes an excellent route for cycling, walking or horse riding, as well as a superb place to fish, bird watch and picnic.

The region is steeped in history, mystery, legends and myths, which you may explore on foot, cycle or by car. The Bretons are very proud of their culture and as well as the many peaceful pursuits available, there is always a chance for you to take part in the lively local Fetes, Fez Noz, Pardons, and Balls, which offer genuine entertainment and fun, based on regional customs and at which you will enjoy a warm welcome.
